What Jikakugo is

Jikakugo is a free Japanese language learning app delivered as a Progressive Web App (PWA). It is an independent project, not affiliated with any official Japanese language certification body.

During the current beta period, all features are available at no charge. If paid features are introduced, existing beta users will receive reasonable notice.

Using the app

You may use Jikakugo for personal, non-commercial learning. You agree not to:

• Copy, redistribute, or reproduce the app's source code, content, or curriculum without written permission
• Use the app in any way that could harm other users or the service
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract the app's content at scale
• Represent Jikakugo's content as your own work

Intellectual property

All content in Jikakugo — including the curriculum, lesson text, conversation scripts, vocabulary notes, stroke order data, and the app's source code — is © 2026 Jikakugo. All rights reserved.

Japanese language itself (kana, kanji, vocabulary, grammar) is not owned by anyone. The way we teach it — the explanations, examples, hints, dialogue scripts, and lesson structure — is original work protected under copyright.

Your data

Your learning data is stored entirely on your device. We have no access to it. You own it and can delete it at any time. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Disclaimer of warranties

Jikakugo is provided "as is" during the beta period. We make no guarantees that:

• The app will always be available or free of bugs
• The content is 100% error-free (Japanese is complex and nuances exist)
• Using Jikakugo will guarantee any result in a JLPT exam or other assessment

If you spot a content error, please let us know — we want to fix it.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Jikakugo and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including loss of learning data from clearing your browser storage.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the app evolves. The date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent version. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa. Any disputes will be handled in South African courts, unless local consumer protection laws in your country require otherwise.
